KIDNEY FAILURE DIALYSIS

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs that extracts waste from the blood. It is used to form urine and balance body fluids. Kidneys also aid in other important functions of the body. They help to keep your blood healthy and helps to keep your bones strong.

When kidneys fail, this causes harmful waste to build up in your body. Kidney failure can affect different functions of the body such as waste excretion, water level balancing, blood pressure regulation, red blood cell regulation and acid regulation.

What is Kidney Dialysis?

Kidney Dialysis is a treatment that takes over your kidney functions. This process cleanses the blood by passing it through a special filter. This allows individuals to live a more productive life.

There are two types of dialysis

Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis utilizes a special filter in a dialysis machine, this allows your blood to flow. This process removes harmful waste, extra fluids and salt. This process helps to balance chemicals such as sodium within the body.

Peritoneal Dialysis

This process uses the patient’s own body tissues inside the abdominal cavity as a filter. A dialysis catheter is placed through the abdominal wall and into the abdominal cavity. Afterwards, a fluid is flushed into the abdominal cavity. Peritoneal Dialysis will assist in removing wastes and excess water from the body.

Home Dialysis

Did you know that you can do Dialysis at home? Both Peritoneal and Hemodialysis can be done in the comfort of your own home. This will allow you to work, travel and get more gentle treatments.
